“Superb”

My wife got me this charter for a surprise at the end of our trip to NZ, it was FANTASTIC! I am a very keen angler and we were treated to a great evenings fishing, we caught great fish for the DURATION of our 4 hour trip. Our skipper Matt was fantastic, with a great knowledge of the local waters, techniques and local area. We would recommend this charter to anyone who wants a great time catching fish out of wellington in a cool relaxed atmosphere. Top marks!!!

“Great Skipper – Great Catch!”

Matt the skipper is a know it all! And in the best way possible!
If you want to catch in Wellington, look no further! As well as knowing the local waters, he gave us heaps of local knowledge too! I’ve fished all over the country on large and small boats. The boat is nice/new and kept very well but really it’s the Skipper Matt is why you should go!

“Best Charter in Wellington”

If you want to spend your money on a charter that caters for a smaller number of people, someone that knows their stuff and fantastic hospitality then Black Pearl Charters is what you are looking for! The boat is well maintained and super speedy so can zap from spot to spot. Matt is very knowledgable and easy going so we felt like we were going fishing with a mate.We would definately recommend this Charter over all others in Wellington. We caught heaps of fish and even had time to sit back for a cuppa and some home baking. Give Black Pearl Charters a go, you wont be disappointed!

“Big Matt is the fishing guru”

We went out with Matt on Wellington harbour in his lovely big boat. Boy, did we have sore arms dragging in fish, especially as I seemed to get a few double hook ups (2 fish on the line at once). Matt has a lovely casual nature, and makes you feel most welcome. We would definitely do it again, when in Wellington.

“Pick’sGoFishing1st Oct 2014”

My sons and I had the good fortune to book a Charter with Matt this week.
We headed out from Mana Marina in a slight breeze but what promised to be a spectacular day weather wise, with high hopes for a great days fishing. The safety briefing was to the point and professional.
Matt was happy to explain sights and add some local colour as we headed out to his first mark. We were quickly fishing and the fish started arriving soon after. They started small and stayed that way, and weren’t what the skipper had been hoping to deliver. Rather than persist for an overly protracted poor session (we had a mere brace of keepers in the bin) Matt made the call to shift to another mark not far away but with other prospects. It was still early enough in the day for the three of us to be philosophical and laid back about the decision but it turned out to be a great one. Not long after arrival the keepers started to come over the side.
Not only that but this was after Chris spotted a whale (probably a mother and calf pair actually) that we visually tracked for twenty or so minutes and were rewarded with the awesome sight of a full length breach. The mother reared completely out of the water and flopped back in with a huge wall of water thrown up around her.
We all decided that the day was a success at that point, but it wasn’t over as the stream of fish was constant, with us agreeing that if we “had to measure, it was too small”
Then when we thought our time was up Matt suggested we try a third spot to mix up the species and try for some gurnard (we had bagged “only” terakihi and a kahawai thus far)
We are up for a challenge and it paid off (check out the photo)
Matt provided all the gear, cold soft drinks, as well as tea or coffee, and home made baking (thanks Matt’s mum!) along with the accomplished and professional guiding.
We would all thoroughly recommend him to anyone wanting a good day out fishing.
Next time we may be back with our kayaks to try “mothershipping”
